DVD/CD Light Scribe FAQ's Section
Did you know...
Q: Hi Andrew, what do you think of light scribe technology? A: Hi Julie, we covered this last year as I recall but it's worth revisiting the subject. For those not in the know, lightscribe is an innovative technology from HP to be able to etch titles, graphics or designs into a special type of recordable disc. The advantage is that the recorder and 'printer' functions are both housed within the drive, so a separate printer is not required. The disc is burnt, then you turn it over to be etched. In theory that all sounds great, however the practical issues need to be considered carefully. Firstly, the system cannot handle color, it is simply a laser etching the surface of the disc to create the artwork, so you are limited to black. Secondly, you need to use lightscribe discs which are not as readily available or as affordable as other types of disc. So it's an interesting technology, but unless it gains widespread acceptance as a standard, it's not going to be the easiest format to work with.
