Panasoic, Fuji, Maxell DVCPRO Tapes, DVC PRO 50 Tapes, DVCPRO HD Tapes
Can I use a DVCAM format tape in a DVCPRO VTR and vice-versa? How about recording and playing back a MiniDV tape in the DVCPRO hardware?
The DV family of products are based on a common format specification, but different tape types are used in the two professional variants. The DVC PRO systems utilize a Metal Particle tape while DVCAM uses the same metal evaporated tape formulation as the MiniDV format. For specific issues of tape compatibility, please consult your hardware's instruction manual or contact the manufacturer directly.
Did you know...
What are the differences between Mini DV and the DVCPRO formats?
The main distinction is that DVCPRO is for professional use, while Mini DV is a consumer digital video format. Also, while both share the same digital compression technology, the tapes differ in size: Mini DV digital camcorders use a tape 1/12th the size of a VHS tape, and DVCPRO camcorders use a slightly bigger tape.
DVCPRO camcorders do, however, have adapter packs that allow them to play back Mini DV tapes. DVCPRO camcorders also typically offer higher resolution than consumer Mini DV digital camcorders.
