Both "N" and "ME" DVCam tapes feature a metal evaporated layer of 100% pure cobalt and optimized "DLC" Diamond-Like Carbon coating which results in high durability & maximum runability in the tape transport as well as a special surface treatment & finishing process which reduces drop out rate of DVCAM by 50% over consumer DV.
The "ME" model DVCAM cassettes include Sony's 16k ClipLink memory chip. That's enough to store the "IN" and "OUT" time codes, the reel number, the scene number, the take number and even the cameraman's "OK" or "No Good" opinion of the particular take -- for up to 198 individual scenes per tape. You'll want to check the user manual for your camera and your editing system to be sure your hardware and software support Sony's ClipLink system before you spend the extra money for "ME" tapes. "N" model tapes have the same image quality but do not include the ClipLink memory chip.
